What is laser liposuction?

Laser liposuction-unlike normal liposuction- is a more recent procedure, sometimes referred to as Smart Lipo, Laser Assisted Lipo, and laser guided lipo. The procedure utilizes the use of light energy to heat up and melt the fat underneath the skin. This makes the fat easier to remove and is suctioned out with a cannula to the desired amount. Since the fat that is removed is liquid this helps the areas to return to a more tightened state. This benefit is especially apparent on the love handles of the upper torso. The main places on the body where laser liposuction procedure is most commonly done is the abdomen, the thighs, the knees, the arms, the neck, the face, back rolls and male breast excess.

Does laser liposuction work?

Research has shown that not only does this procedure work for the reduction of small amounts of fat, but has also shown to increase tightening of skin after the procedure. Within three months after having the procedure done, patient's had ranges between 20% and 80% of skin tightening. This simply means that the skin contracted back to within 20% and 80% of what the patient should expect based on the amount of volume removal. The ability of the skin to return to its normal state was primarily linked to the amount of elasticity of the patient's skin. Some doctors believe that the ability for the skin to tighten back is approximately 50% more than traditional liposuction procedure. It has also been shown that laser liposuction procedure has a lower amount of bruising due to the fact that the laser seals the blood vessels that are disrupted when the fat is broken up.

What type of person is a ideal candidate for lipolaser?

The best candidate for laser liposuction is a patient with excess fat in mild to moderate amounts. The patient should have skin laxity that is mild to moderate. Laxity is the looseness of the skin. For those with excessive skin laxity or excess fat, a tummy tuck or surgical lipo procedure would be necessary.

What is involved in a smartlipo procedure?

While the procedures for Laser Lipo Fort Lauderdale are similar, there are two different techniques used to achieve desired results. The first type of procedure involves three steps. First a laser is applied to the deep fat to liquefy it and release the fatty oils. This allows the fatty oils to leak into the other fat, disrupting the cells and preparing them for removal.

Additionally, during this part of the procedure, the smaller blood vessels in the deep tissue will be cauterized which will help to prevent bruising after the procedure. Next the laser is used to heat the superficial layers of fat underneath the skin. This stimulates the cells to produce more collagen which will improve the skin quality post treatment. Finally the cell fragments and oil is removed to create the contour.

Another type of procedure includes the first two steps without the removal of the oil. In this procedure the oil is absorbed naturally into the body. This type of procedure is normally used to tighten skin in such places as the neck area.

What is cold laser liposuction?

Another option when it comes to laser procedures, is the cold laser lipo. This is done through the use of a cold laser, ultrasound suction, and smaller instruments. The ideal candidate for this procedure will have a problem area that they cannot lose the excess fat with proper diet and exercise. This procedure uses a minimal incision and with a laser breaks apart the fat cells which are then removed through ultrasound suction. The procedure is done with minimal scarring and prevents major bruising. The cold liposuction also helps the skin re-tighten after the procedure. The primary areas that cold liposuction is used to treat are the waist, hips, upper arms, inner and outer thighs, chin, back (especially the bra area), and male breasts.

What can you expect after the Laser Lipo Fort Lauderdale?

The patient will be able to leave the same day as the procedure. The first day there will be some drainage at the incision site and it will be important to follow proper after care instructions to take care of dressings. Once the drainage is complete the incision areas will heal without the need for sutures. There will be tiny scars at the incision sites that will fade over time and the facility should give patients instructions on how to minimize the visibility of these scars. Once the numbness of the area wears off, there will be discomfort in the area that will be controlled with pain medication based on individual pain tolerance. Most patients will be able to return to work a few days after the procedure. Again this is based on individual healing level and pain tolerance. Patients will have a follow-up appointment with the surgeon within 24 hours of the procedure, but they should be available by phone if any problems immediately occur. It is important to remember that proper weight management should be continued following the procedure, so that the effects of the procedure will not be undone.

What are the Laser Lipo Fort Lauderdale risks?

As with any cosmetic procedure done, there are some minor risks involved in Laser Lipo Broward

The benefit of lipo laser is that the risks are minimal compared to more traditional procedures. Since no general anesthetic is required for these procedures, reactions and allergies to anesthetic are a surgical risk that will not come with this procedures. Typical laser liposuction risks include, swelling, bruising, and numbness at the site, infection, and allergic reaction. The larger the area being treated, the higher the risks involved. Serious risks can include severe allergic reaction and possible perforation of a major organ. To prevent these major risks, it is important to find a board certified surgeon with proper experience in laser liposuction. To avoid the possibility of allergic reaction, the patient should discuss their medical history openly and honestly with the surgeon as well as any medication being taken, prescription or otherwise.
