Breast Augmentation Florida

What is breast augmentation?

A breast augmentation is a surgical procedure clinically known as an augmentation mammoplasty but more commonly referred to as a “boob job”(170). Breast augmentation surgery involves the placement of breast implants either on top of or underneath the pectoral muscle with the intentions of increasing breast size and restoring volume creating natural looking full breasts. A boob job has the ability to improve the symmetry and balance of your appearance, increase fullness and volume of the breasts, and most importantly enhance self-esteem and confidence. Many women seek this procedure after extreme weight loss, pregnancy, breast reconstruction after injury or a mastectomy, or simply because they are not satisfied with their breast size or overall appearance.

Types of Breast Implants

Breast augmentation patients have the option of choosing which type of implant they prefer or which is a better fit for their body type or preference. Factors such as age, body type, and amount of breast tissue will determine which type of implant is the better option.

Saline Implants

One option patients have is the saline breast implant that is filled with sterile salt water and held in a silicone shell. During the breast enlargement procedure, the implant is inserted empty and then filled to the desired size once it is in the proper position. A great benefit of the saline implant is its safety. If the implant were to leak, break, or rupture, it would simply collapse and the salt solution would be absorbed by the body naturally without causing any harm. Due to the collapsing and deflation of the implant, a rupture would be easily identified and therefore removed as soon as possible. This type of implant has been FDA-approved and is available to patients 18 years or older.

Silicone Breast Implants

The other option patients may choose is the silicone breast implant. Silicone breast implants are pre-filled with plastic gel held in a silicone shell. The gel within the implant mimics human fat due to its sticky thick feel making it feel more similar to natural breast tissue. Many women feel that this type of implant not only feels more natural, but it also resembles the look of a natural breast. Unlike saline implants, if they were to leak, the gel solution will remain intact within the shell and will therefore not collapse and may not be identified immediately. Women who get silicone implants must get ultrasounds and MRI screenings every so often to ensure that the implant is still in good condition. Silicone breast implants are available to women 22 years or older and have been FDA-approved.

Breast Augmentation Incisions

Deciding which type of incision will be made for your procedure is one of the most important steps in the process. Some surgeons either prefer or are more experienced in a certain incision type, but it is important that you and the doctor choose the incision type that is best for you. The following are the most common types of breast augmentation incisions:

Periareolar Insicion

This technique involves an incision made around the edge of the areola. The main goal with this technique is to make the incision between the dark of the areola and the light of the surrounding skin making the scar lest visible. One of the greatest advantages of this technique is the surgeons’ ability to have direct access and control over the positioning of the implant. This ensures more accurate placement and better overall symmetry. A downfall of this technique is the risk of temporary or permanent nipple sensation. About 2-5% of patients completely lose sensation and about 20% are unable to breast feed after a breast augmentation.

Inframammary Insicion

The Inframmary Incision involves an incision under the breast on the inframmary fold. The plastic surgeon creates a pocket where he then inserts the implant up behind the nipple. Although this technique does leave a scar, it provides easier access way for the doctor and can be hidden easily underneath a bra or bathing suit top.

Transumbilical Insicion (TUBA)

The transumbilical technique, also known as TUBA, involves a small incision through the naval where the doctor will create a channel leading up to the breast area. This is essentially the most scar less technique out of the four but is more difficult when working with pre-filled silicone implants.

Transaxillary

The transaxillary technique involves an incision made in the natural fold of the armpit. This incision requires the formation of a channel starting from the armpit and ending at the breast where the implant is then placed behind the breast tissue. This technique has the great advantage of resulting in a less visible scarring due to the fact that the incision is made in the armpit at a great distance from the breast. Although it produces almost no scar, this technique requires more tuning to ensure symmetry since the implant is being inserted through a more distant incision site.

Best Candidate for Breast Augmentation Florida

Amongst all plastic surgery procedures, breast augmentation ranks as one of the most popular. One of the most important factors when determining eligibility for breast augmentation surgery is age and health status. First and foremost, the law requires that patients be at least 18 years old to receive saline implants, and at least 22 years old for silicone. Health is the most important factor. Before undergoing any type of cosmetic surgery, patients should be completely healthy and are recommended to visit their primary doctor for initial “ok” to receive cosmetic surgery.

A majority of women seeks a breast augmentation after extreme loss or pregnancy. Breast are essentially made up fat, therefore after weight loss, there is less breast tissue resulting in smaller size. After pregnancy and breast feeding, many women also experience loss of volume sometimes ending up two cup sizes smaller. Other women may just not be comfortable with the size, shape, or symmetry of their breasts. Individuals should take a look at breast augmentation before and after pictures to get an idea of where their expectations should lie.

Breast Implants Cost

After women decide they want to undergo a breast augmentation, the first question is always “How much is a breast augmentation?” The price of a breast augmentation can vary depending on what city you are in, who your surgeon is, and what type of implant and size you want.

Breast Implants range in price depending on which type of implant you choose whether saline or silicone, the size of the implant, and the brand. Here at Sunrise Plastic Surgery, we use only the top brand implants made and manufactured here in the United States. This ensures the safety of the patient and outcome of the surgery.

Typically, silicone breast implants are a little pricier than saline. In 2011, the American Society for Aesthetics Plastic Surgery found that the average cost for silicone breast implants was $3,694, and $3,308 for saline breast implants. These are average estimates but do not include any additional surgery expenses such as facility fees, anesthesia, medications, medical tests, post-surgery garments. Patients must also keep in mind that larger implants may cost more. All these aspects alter the price of this procedure.

Here at Sunrise Plastic Surgery we try our best to work with our patients in finding a more economical price. We offer financing options to help pay for any cosmetic procedure including breast augmentation. Financing allows patients to make payments gradually in a way that is reasonable for their budget. Breast Augmentation Recovery

Breast Augmentation is a surgical procedure that requires sufficient recovery time and treatment. Directly after surgery, the patient will be taken to a recovery room to be closely monitored until anesthesia wears off. Once the doctor determines everything looks good, the patient will be released. Transportation will either be provided or the patient must plan to have a close family member or friend drive them to their home or hotel and care for them at least the first 48 hours.

The patient will be given specific instructions to follow such as how to care for your breasts after surgery, medications to take, and follow up appointments. Following all directions will help reduce the risk of complications and infections before, during, and after surgery.

Recovery time will vary from patient to patient. You will experience soreness and swelling for a few weeks and activity should be limited. Movements such as pulling, pushing, and lifting should be avoided for about the first week and gradually increased as the weeks pass. Patients should plan to take off from work for at least 3 days post-surgery. Your doctor will notify you as to when it will be safe to return to work and normal activity. As time passes swelling will be reduced and scarring will become less visible.

Breast Augmentation Risks

Although breast augmentation is considered a safe surgical procedure, there are several risks and possible complications that patients should be aware of. These include:

  1. Rupture
  2. Capsular Contraction
  3. Loss of sensation in the nipple
  4. Infection
  5. Bleeding
  1. Poor scarring
  2. Rippling (wrinkling of the skin over the implant)
  3. Implant leakage
  4. Additional surgery

Many of these breast augmentation risks and complications can be avoided by following doctor and nurse orders before and after surgery. Failure to do say may result in minor or severe complications along with unsatisfactory results.
